Week 4: News Story

Adoption

People not only from poor countries are the only ones who give out their babies for adoption but, also from other countries we lease expect to give up their babies. Those who we consider as capable of owning and raising kids are also the one who set their babies for adoption though it is not that well known.

Celebrities cases (like Madonna’s, Angelina Jolie’s) on adopting babies had un-wrapped the reality that inter-country adoption is not a one way street for the U.S. but rather a two way. It had opened the public’s eye not only about the process of adoption but also to the fact that the largest receiving country of adopted babies is the United States of America, but also little did we know that it sends out children to be adopted by family abroad, to Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, etc.

In a survey that has been made late last year, there were around 102 American children that was adopted by Canadian families and which was a 30% increase from 2004 adoptions. Also, in 2003, 31 American children were adopted by families from Netherlands, who yearns to care and have a child of their own but cannot produce so they just adopt instead. Other countries like Germany, Sweden, and New Zealand also said to have adopted American children for the past years.

People from different countries are willing to adopt babies from other countries too, this has been proven by surveys that had been made thru the years and studies made by specialists. But no matter what, these babies should have a chance to have a good life.

An Adoption specialists had estimated that the number of United States children that are adopted abroad each year is lesser than 300. And, then the department of state had issued last 2005, a more than 22,000 visas, it was released for the arriving children that year and the poof on how many adopted children are sent and received every year.

They said that majority of this children are bi-racial and black infants, and their mothers (birth mothers) believes that they will have better lives in other countries and they will be less discriminated on their race and color, they only hope for the best for their babies that is why they willingly set them up for adoption, in a hope for a better life for their babies.
